The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) asked the Federal Police (PF) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Ghanaian immigrant Evans Ossêi Ússu, who died last month at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo.
The request for action was sent this Monday (9) by the National Secretary of Justice, Jean Uema, to the general coordinator of the Immigration Police, Marinho da Silva Rezende Júnior. An investigation to investigate the case is already underway at the PF.
“In view of what was widely reported regarding the death of Mr. Evans Ossêi Ússu, a national of Ghana, on 8/13/2024, I request that the necessary measures be taken to investigate the facts within the scope of the Federal Police’s jurisdiction,” says the letter.
Last month, the Federal Police confirmed that Evans died after suffering a heart attack. He received medical attention but did not survive. A Ghanaian national, he was in the restricted area of the airport and had a no-entry status.
About 20 days after the Ghanaian’s death, the new rules for the reception of immigrants came into effect. With the measure, immigrants who disembark in Brazil with the intention of continuing their journey to another country and who do not have an entry visa for Brazilian territory will have to continue their journey to their final destinations or return to their countries of origin immediately.
