Federal Police agents are this Tuesday (7) in the city of São João de Meriti, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, to combat the practice of social security fraud. In Operation Zelo VI, they carry out a search and seizure warrant. The court order was issued by the 10th Federal Criminal Court.
According to the PF, the police seized, during a search at the home of one of the people being investigated, 15 bank cards, six cell phones, a notebook, an external hard drive and a pen drive, in addition to several documents that will now undergo technical and expert analysis.
A report from the Rio de Janeiro Regional Social Security and Labor Intelligence Center was what sparked the investigation.
“Irregularities were discovered through the unblocking of accounts linked to fraudulent social security benefits, with an estimated loss of R$500,000 to the Union’s coffers,” the Federal Police said in a statement.
He added that the crime of social security theft is provided for in paragraph 3 of article 171 of the Penal Code, “the penalty for which can exceed six years in prison”.
