Federal Police (PF) agents arrested red-handed this Saturday morning (26) two men carrying 84 automatic pistols on the Presidente Dutra highway, near the city of Piraí, in southern Rio de Janeiro.
The weapons were hidden in the duo’s luggage, which left São Paulo by bus to Rio de Janeiro. The pistols, whose numbering had been scratched off, were located during an inspection carried out by police officers stationed at the Drug Repression Police Station (DRE), stationed at the Federal Police Superintendence in Rio.
According to the agents, the weapons would be destined for the criminal faction that controls drug trafficking in the community of Nova Holanda, located in Complexo da Maré, in the north of Rio.
The prisoners were taken to the PF regional superintendence, where they were charged in flagrante delicto and will be sent to a state prison, where they will be available to Federal Justice. The two will respond for the crime of illegal possession of firearms, which can be punished with up to six years in prison.
