Federal Judge extends Blocked against controversial Migration Law of Florida
Madrid, Spain.- Federal Judge Kathleen Williams extended the temporary block against the controversial law of immigration of Florida, known as SB 4-C. Williams, from the Southern District Court of Florida, decided to prolong the suspension of the application of the law until April 29, expressing concern about its possible unconstitutional execution.
The judicial decision occurred following the arrest of Juan Carlos Lopez-Gómez, an American citizen born in Georgia. The young man, 20 years old and resident in Cairo, graduate County, was arrested by the Florida road patrol (FHP) when he crossed the state border towards his work under construction in Tallahassee.
Although a local judge found no cause for his arrest, Lopez-Gomez remained detained due to a retention imposed by the customs immigration and control service (ICE). His release finally happened last Thursday night, in the midst of emotional scenes when he met with his mother.
This incident has increased the rejection of SB 4-C, approved this year during a special legislative session promoted by the governor Ron desantis and the republican majority. The regulations penalize with up to nine months in prison those who illegally enter the State as “unauthorized foreigners.” Various organizations defending civil rights consider that the law encourages racial discrimination and arbitrary arrests.
Two other men, Sales-Perez and Ismael Sales-Luis summarize, were arrested simultaneously under the same accusation. Sales-Perez remains in ICE custody.

Organizations such as the Coalition of Immigrants of Florida and the Association of Agricultural Workers, legally backed by groups such as the ACLU of Florida, sued the State for the implementation of this law.
Meanwhile, the road patrol said it will continue to cooperate with federal authorities in immigration matters, despite the judicial block.
It should be remembered that at the beginning of April, Judge Williams had already issued a temporary restriction order against SB 4-C.
