The federal government inaugurated today (24) a 17.8-kilometer stretch of BR-153 duplication, located in São José do Rio Preto (SP), between km 54.3 and km 72.1. R$ 268.5 million were invested in the project, an amount that includes restorations and interventions in viaducts, bridges and footbridges.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, around 1 million people who live in the region could benefit. The municipality is located 442 kilometers from the capital, and, according to the ministry, exerts direct influence over a region with more than 100 cities.
Taking advantage of the trip to São Paulo to inaugurate the work, President Jair Bolsonaro again criticized what he classifies as “populist measures”, adopted by governors who defend social isolation as a way of combating the covid-19 pandemic.
“Over the last two years, we have seen and felt prototypes of dictators all over Brazil. These apprentice dictators took measures, some populist and others unthought of, that directly affected our lives,” Bolsonaro said. “Being a leader is not being on the side of political correctness. It is deciding by gestures, and for example, being on the side of the people,” he added.
“I had and still have the power to close down all of Brazil by decree. I never thought of that because freedom comes first. Almost all governors forced the people to stay at home, but they did not think about the consequences”, he added.
