President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced this Wednesday (11) a package of R$4.64 billion in investments to expand and modernize 11 airports in four states.
According to Palácio do Planalto, the airports are Congonhas (São Paulo), Campo Grande (MS), Ponta Porã (MS), Corumbá (MS), Santarém (PA), Marabá (PA), Carajás (PA), Altamira (PA), Uberlândia (MG), Uberaba (MG) and Montes Claros (MG).
The federal government estimates that, during the implementation of the project, financed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), more than two thousand direct and indirect jobs will be created.
Operational capacity
In a statement, the Ministry of Ports and Airports informed that the proposal is to increase airport operational capacity, in particular at Congonhas airport, which will increase from a capacity of 29 million to more than 40 million passengers per year.
“The investments also include terminals in the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Pará, connecting productive areas in the interior to large centers”, added the ministry.
