Federal government announces change of president of Petrobras

The Ministry of Mines and Energy released, on Monday night (23), an official note in which it informs that the federal government, as the controlling shareholder of Petrobras, decided to change the president of the state-owned company. According to the note, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho, who took office 40 days ago, will be replaced by Caio Mário Paes de Andrade as president of the company.Federal government announces change of president of Petrobras

In the note, the ministry thanked Ferreira Coelho for the results achieved by Petrobras during his management at the head of Petrobras, but highlights that the country “is currently experiencing a challenging moment, due to the effects of the extreme volatility of hydrocarbons in international markets.”

According to the ministry, several geopolitical factors impacted the price of gasoline, diesel and energy components and, in order to maintain the necessary conditions for the growth of employment and income of the population, it is necessary to strengthen the investment capacity in the private sector. “Working and contributing to a balanced scenario in the energy area is fundamental for the generation of value for the company, generating benefits for the whole society”, says the note.

Biography

Paes de Andrade, who will assume the presidency, has a degree in social communication from Universidade Paulista, a postgraduate degree in administration and management from Harvard University and a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University.

Currently, in the federal government, Paes de Andrade is the Special Secretary for Debureaucratization, Management and Digital Government, where he is responsible for the GOV.BR Platform and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and of Pré-Sal Petróleo. SA (PPSA). Between 2019 and 2020, he was president of the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro). In the private sector, he worked in the area of ​​information technology and in the real estate market, in addition to being the founder and advisor of Instituto Fazer Acabar.

The ministry says, in the note, that it believes that Paes de Andrade has the necessary qualifications to assume the presidency of Petrobras and overcome the challenges of the current situation, “promoting the continuous administrative improvement and the growing performance of the company, without neglecting the responsibilities of governance. , environmental and, especially, social of Petrobras.”

The note also says that, with the change, the federal government renews its commitment to respect the governance of Petrobras.

Paes de Andrade is the fourth president of the state-owned company in the current government. Before him, were presidents of Petrobras, Roberto Castelo Branco, the general of the army reserve, Joaquim Silva e Luna and José Mauro Ferreira Coelho.
