A Federal Court of Appeals on Monday to annul a verdict of a jury of 83.3 million dollars against the president of the United States, Donald Trump, for damaging the reputation of the writer E. Jean Carroll in 2019 when she denied her demand for rape.
The Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit of the United States in Manhattan rejected Trump’s argument that the January 2024 verdict should be annulled because he had presidential immunity.
The same court confirmed on June 13 the separate verdict of 5 million dollars from the jury against Trump (May 2023) for a similar defamation and for sexual aggression.

Trump first denied his demand in June 2019, telling a reporter that Carroll “was not my guy” and that he had invented the story to sell his memoir Why do we need men?
Trump argued that the decision of the Supreme Court, of July 2024, granted him an immunity that protected him from the responsibility in the civil case of Carroll.
He also said that not immunizing him could undermine the independence of the Executive Power.
