In response to this situation, a coordinated deployment was carried out with the participation of authorities from the three levels of government, reported Governor Rubén Rocha Moya.
Following the armed clash, civilians set fire to two vehicles on Mexico Highway 15, near El Limón de los Ramos, in order to hinder the actions of the authorities.
Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil, mayor of Culiacán, confirmed early on that federal mobilizations were taking place in his municipality and asked the population to remain calm.
“As a result of actions by the Federal Government’s security forces, in the municipality of Jesús María, north of the municipality of Culiacán, incidents of insecurity have been reported focused on that area, on the Mexico 15 highway,” said the official.
Federal forces and armed civilians clashed near the place where Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, was arrested for the second time.
The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat also called on citizens to remain calm while the competent authorities take charge of what is happening in Culiacán.
In January 2023, elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) carried out an operation in Jesús María to arrest Ovidio Guzmán López.
Following an armed confrontation, Ovidio Guzmán was captured and later extradited to the United States.
This Thursday, Mexican authorities reported that they do not know where Ovidio is and linked his alleged release to the arrest of his brother, Joaquín Guzmán López, and Ismael Zambada.
