Fedenaga affirms that in 2024 it was possible to increase the demand for meat despite difficulties

The president of the National Federation of Livestock Breeders (Fedenaga), Edgar Medina, stated on Saturday, November 9, that during 2024 the increase in meat consumption in the country was consolidated, despite the variations that the sector suffered during the year.

Medina, who visited the state of Anzoátegui to hold a Council of Directors, emphasized that the per capita consumption of meat rose from 8 to 9 kilos in the first quarter to 12 kilos per person and pointed out that the year also started with a low price for live cattle. However, he said, thanks to the increase in demand for the product, price stabilization was achieved.

He highlighted that the sector needs the support of the Nicolás Maduro administration in order to continue advancing with the country’s agricultural and livestock production to, in addition to seeking food sovereignty, generate jobs for the population.

He pointed out that in the Council that was held in San José de Guanipa, topics such as agricultural security and credits were debated, as well as the exemption from Income Tax (ISLR); since it considers that it is necessary to reinvest the money and continue complying with the national supply.

He warned that another of the problems that concern ranchers is cattle rustling and theft, which is why He once again urged that the Criminal Law for the Protection of Livestock Activity be discussed “so that the sentences are exemplary and thus these crimes against genetics are not committed.”

The president of Fedenaga stressed that they need help with the issue of the exchange rate differential so that there is no variation between what they charge – which is at the official rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela – versus what they pay, which is in parallel dollar, with the objective of having the necessary inputs to produce.

Medina asserted that the year 2024 should close, as until now, with the price of meat and milk stable. “In 2025 we must start with strength, articulation, union, and a lot of coordination, so that the people of Venezuela can continue to have the food they need,” he added.
