The survey released this Thursday (7), was carried out by the Institute of Social, Political and Economic Research (Ipespe) from October 15th to 23rd, with interviews with 2 thousand people, in the five regions of the country.

According to the study, 72% assessed that the country improved (40%) or remained the same (32%) in relation to 2023 – in the September survey this sum was 74% (improved: 42%; remained the same: 32%). Regarding the opinion that the country has worsened, there was a positive fluctuation of two points, going from 25% in September to 27% in October.

According to Radar Febraban, the assessment that the country has improved compared to 2023 is relatively homogeneous among sociodemographic segments, but presents significant variations by region, being more pronounced in the Northeast (45%) and less in the South (34%) . The same occurred regarding the perception of worsening, with more significant differences in the regions, more pronounced in the Central-West (33%) and less in the Northeast (21%).

The survey also showed that around half of Brazilians had favorable expectations about the country for the period until the end of the year: 49% thought that the country will be better by the end of 2024 (an oscillation of minus one point in relation to the September round ); 28% said it will remain stable, while 23% expect it to get worse.

Personal life

Radar Febraban also showed that for 79% of the population, personal and family life is better than it was in 2023, compared to 20% who believe that the situation has worsened. The result registers a negative variation of one percentage point in relation to the September survey and remains close to the February level, when it reached 83%.

Young people aged 18 to 24 were more satisfied with the evolution of their personal and family life (52% see improvement) and those with income above five minimum wages (46%). In the regional section, the Northeast stands out, where 49% see improvement. Discontent is more significant in the Central-West (23% see it getting worse) and in the South (25%).

The survey also showed that 62% of people believe that personal and family life will improve by December 2024. Around a quarter believe in stability (27%), and the least hopeful, who project it will get worse, total 8%.

Regarding expectations for the coming months, young people aged 18 to 24 are the most confident in improving their personal and family life by the end of the year (70% believe they will improve). Regionally, this positive expectation is highest in the Northeast (68%). Discouragement regarding the remainder of the year reaches double digits in the Central-West region (10%).

Pricing

Radar Febraban also heard people regarding their perception of inflation: 77% said that prices had increased a lot or increased, a result four percentage points higher than that recorded in September (74%). Those that observed price stability fluctuated from 17% to 15%. Only 6% thought that prices had decreased (it was 8% in September).

According to the research, the perception that prices have increased a lot or increased was more common among women (79% of them have this perception), young people aged 18 to 24 (80%), those who studied until high school ( 79%) and in the range of two to five minimum wages (78%). In regional terms, this number is highest in the North (80%), falling to 74% in the Northeast.

Priorities

Health has consolidated itself in 1st place in the ranking of areas highlighted by interviewees as priorities to receive greater attention from the federal government: it was mentioned by 33% of Brazilians; employment and income was mentioned by 21%; education was third, with 13% of mentions. Inflation and cost of living appeared at 10%; environment (7%), security (7%), hunger and poverty (4%), and corruption (4%) completed the ranking.
