It is also estimated that this year, The feast of the Virgen de la Candelaria 2025, one of Peru’s most emblematic celebrations, will attract approximately 87,000 visitors, both national and foreign.
According to the General Directorate of Research and Studies on Tourism and Crafts of the Vice Ministry of Tourism, it is noted that Approximately 85% of visitors will be of national origin, mainly from Lima, Cusco and Arequipa.
In addition, the remaining 15% are expected to correspond to international tourists, attracted by the cultural wealth and the patrimonial value of this celebration, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This growing interest in the holiday encourages the development of activities such as the acquisition of tourist packages, consumption in restaurants and the purchase of typical products.
According to the study carried out, it is observed that the occupation during the central dates of the celebration (February 9, 10 and 11) will reach approximately 81%, which represents a remarkable increase compared to 30% registered before the start of the holiday.
This increase in demand is also reflected in accommodation prices: 72% of lodgings increased their rates by up to 50%, while around 15% have doubled their costs. This situation shows the relevance of the holiday in the revitalization of the local economy, which covers not only lodging services, but also gastronomy, transport and commerce.
Another important factor is the participation of dancers and musicians, who make significant investments in the preparation of costumes, masks and other accessories for their presentations, which generates a positive impact on local trade and cultural industries in the region.
In addition, the increase in visitors favors the promotion of tourist circuits, such as visits to the Lake Titicaca, the floating islands of the Uros, Taquile and Amantaní, as well as the acquisition of crafts that reflect the cultural identity of Puno.
