The Dominican Development Foundation (FDD) celebrated its annual award ceremony for outstanding microenterprise entrepreneurs, within the framework of its 55th assembly, in which the members of the institution’s Board of Directors were elected for the period 2022-2023.
Keyla López was awarded as an enterprising woman and Ramón Mayí as outstanding businessman of the year, both selected for their good performance and for being examples of economic self-realization through their businesses, with which they generate economic growth and jobs, becoming part of the development of their locations.
López explained that his small business of fixing technological equipment arose in response to a need that young students in the Los Guaricanos sector had in a pandemic and that thanks to the accompaniment and access to credit from the FDD, he has managed to diversify his services and have a better quality of life. .
The foundation closed its 2021 loan portfolio with 15,088 clients and a gross portfolio amount of 394 million pesos, increasing by 28.31% compared to 2020, the non-profit institution reported during the award ceremony.
Amelia Reyes Mora, outgoing president, explained that “consistent with our portfolio growth policy based on social responsibility criteria, we ensure that we satisfy the requirements of our clients, while avoiding over-indebtedness.”
He said that 59.84% of the loans were granted to women and 44.43% were destined for rural areas.
He indicated that the credit programs focused on the commercial reactivation of the beneficiary borrowers, approaching their immediate needs, new projects, change and adaptation of commercial activity, business resilience and innovative investments.
Reyes Mora, the third woman to assume the presidency of the FDD, added that, during her tenure presiding over the council, she experienced great challenges and satisfactions. “Singularly, we experienced the best year of the FDD, 2019 with the best results in five decades, in contrast, we also suffered the saddest year for the institution, 2020.”

The group of businessmen that will continue with responsibility on the foundation’s board for the period 2022-2023 is made up of María Virginia Elmúdesi, president; Ramón Franco Thomen, Vice President; Susanna Reid, secretary; Jean Paul Quiroz, treasurer; María Del Carmen Ramos, deputy secretary; María Del Pilar Cañas, vice-treasurer; Carlos J. Camilo, Robinson Bou, Lil Esteva, Tomás Martínez Peguero and Eduard Gottschalk, vocals.
Upon assuming the presidency of the FDD, María Virginia Elmúdesi said that for the new Council it is a privilege and a challenge to continue promoting the commitment of the institution. “The pillars of our management will rest on guaranteeing sustainability over time, being competitive to serve customers effectively, and good environmental management.
