Miami, United States. – The head of the Miami Police Department, Manuel A. Morales, informed that he will undertake legal actions to identify and process those responsible for the YouTube channel “Cuban Guerrero”, which is linked to the security of the State of Cuba, after a video threats against him were released in a video.
The investigation is carried out in conjunction with the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) and the United States Federal Prosecutor’s Office will be consulted to assess charges, Morales confirmed in statements to Martí News.
“I already generated a police report. My officers are working hand in hand with FBI agents. The agency that investigates primarily will be the FIB. Then we will talk to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the United States to see what is happening,” said the police chief in the aforementioned environment.
Morales stressed the seriousness of the facts and the public nature of their function. “Obviously, it is something good that these individuals there in Cuba are believed to have the power to threaten an American citizen and especially one who is in the public service,” he said.
As explained to Martí Newsthe immediate objective of the investigation is to deactivate the propaganda channel and, in a second phase, present the case before the State Prosecutor and the Federal Government Prosecutor for the determination of the corresponding positions.
The threats of “Cuban Guerrero” spread in a video after the participation of Morales in the International Conference “Save Cuba”held on September 13, where the police chief shared his vision of the reconstruction of the forces of the order in a democratic cuba.
In that audiovisual piece, an unidentified voice said: “I repeat them again, save you because right now the life of a single person in that country is not guaranteed,” in reference to the United States. In the same material it was also noted: “The message is more than clear, the danger is everywhere.” Also the director of the Cuban Democratic Board, Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, was the target of the attacks.
In your conversation with Martí NewsMorales insisted that the role of police forces should be the protection of citizenship and not repression. “I think they recognize in their heart that their position is not to be a tool of the dictatorship that serves to plant terror and fear. They know that they should be the coat of protection of the Cuban community,” he said.
The “Cuban Guerrero” profile accumulates a history of slander and harassment against figures of exile and internal opposition, and has already been subject to suspensions on platforms such as YouTube and Twitter for infractions to policies against incitement to hatred and violence.
According to the Cuban repressor project, behind that alias would be Colonel Pedro Orlando Martínez Fernández, head of the political body of the General Directorate of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR).
Morales entered the Miami Police Department in 1994, after almost four years of service in the United States Army. Throughout his career he has performed functions as an officer of Patrol, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Commander and Major. In February 2022 he was appointed Chief of the Police and currently directs more than 1,300 sworn officers and 400 civil employees.
