The father of Matias Berriostudent of Antioqueño High School died in the tragic traffic accident that occurred on a road in the municipality of Remedios, Antioquia, he decided to fulfill one of his greatest dreams for his son: to attend a classic paisa between Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín at the Atanasio Girardot stadium. Although Matías is no longer physically present, his father took him “as he would have wanted”in a gesture that has deeply moved social networks.

In the Atanasio stands, the man entered with a painting in which Matías’s photograph appears along with Mariana Galvis, the teenager’s girlfriend, who also lost her life in the same accident. The image was placed in one of the stadium seats, as a symbol of love, memory and tribute to two young people whose lives were suddenly cut short.
Later, the young man’s father, Walfran Berrío, was interviewed by the Win Sports channel about that gesture: «My son is a fan of Nacional and Mariana, of Medellín. He always wanted to come to a classic, I never let him, today we wanted to pay tribute to him coming to a classic for the first time, now and see.
“They had been dating for two years, they died together, we watched them together, we buried them together”expressed the father of the family in the midst of his pain.
The accident, which left an entire educational community in mourning, occurred when the bus carrying students from the Liceo Antioqueño overturned on a road in Remedios. The accident left 15 young people dead and the driver of the vehicle, in addition to several injured, becoming one of the most painful road tragedies recently recorded in the department.
According to those close to the family, Matías was passionate about soccer and dreamed of experiencing a classic paisa in the stadium, feeling the excitement of the fans and sharing that special moment. His father, clinging to that memory, decided to turn the pain into an act of love, taking the image of his son and Mariana to the sports scene that they so longed to see together.
The images of the tribute quickly went viral on social networks, where hundreds of users expressed messages of solidarity, respect and admiration for the father’s gesture. For many, the scene represents the crudest and at the same time most human way to face an irreparable loss: honoring the dreams of those who are no longer here.
While investigations continue to clarify the causes of the accident, the story of Matías and Mariana continues to touch hearts throughout the country.
