MIAMI, United States. — José García Merino, father of Yerandi García, one of the young people who died on October 28 in the sinking of the boat in the waters north of Bahía Honda, denounced pressure from Cuban State Security against the survivors of the event and their relatives to modify their testimonies.
“I make this video to denounce that State Security in Cuba has threatened the grandmother of the murdered two-year-old girl, her mother, the mother of my son,” García Merino said in a video shared on social networks by journalist Mario J. Pentón.
In this sense, the political police would be trying to coerce the survivors and their families, warning that there would be jail sentences of between one and five years for those who continue to denounce the facts.
“They have police officers all over the place constantly watching them, and they are living in terror. They are afraid.”

On “Official version” of the sinking of the boat offered by the Cuban regime on Tuesday of last week, García Merino expressed that it was a manipulated account of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of seven people.
“They are letting the world see what is convenient for them, not reality,” said the complainant.
Yerandi García’s mother, Yini Meizoso Fabelo, declared this Sunday to Radio Television Martí that the Cuban authorities lie about what happened in the sinking of the boat.
“I know it was not an accident. Why don’t they tell the truth, even once in their lives?” added Meizoso Fabelo.
In the special program of Cuban Television broadcast last week, officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) assured that the sinking of the boat was due, in part, to the technical conditions of the boat, which was modified with the objective of transporting more people.
The MININT authorities insisted that there was no other impact from the Border Guard Troops vessel, as several of the survivors of the event claimed in principle.
