MIAMI, United States. — Father Alberto Reyes Pías lamented today on social networks that Cubans have normalized scarcity and need as a way of life.
According to the Camagüeyan priest, those who live on the Island have long been used to surviving in extreme situations and accepting the guidelines of the Island regime as irreversible norms.
“We have normalized hunger, precariousness, scarcity, lack of medicines, life in the key of survival; we have normalized the potholed streets, our houses in ruins, the deterioration, the ugliness; We have normalized the stores in MLC, the top-ups from abroad, the increasingly higher prices…”, the religious pointed out in his profile. Facebook.
Reyes Pías indicated that something similar has happened with phenomena as harmful to the Cuban nation as family separation, the definitive departure from the country, the emigration of our loved ones and the prolonged absences from home due to the so-called missions.
Likewise, the priest questioned the island’s regime for lying and manipulating the people, as well as for repressing dissent at all levels.
“We have normalized the lies of the Government, being ignored and manipulated, being summoned and intimidated; We have normalized prisoners of conscience, those detained for shouting ´Freedom!´, even allowing our children to be sent to attack and beat. And it is not long before we normalize blackouts and begin to see the impossibility of working, cooking, resting, as something “normal”.
These are ideas that the Cuban religious has addressed on other occasions as a way of denouncing the reality that exists on the Island.
Less than a month ago, Reyes Pías denounced publicly the precarious situation in which Cuba finds itself and blamed the island’s communist regime for the ordeal that Cubans have suffered for decades.
The father assured that the Cuban people have been victims of “deep sufferings”, which go through the impossibility of “growing” and having a prosperous life on the Island.
