The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that there has been a decisive step towards the construction of a high -speed train that will travel the country from Tumbes to Tacna.
The head of the sector, César Sandoval, said that the Korean company Dohwa Engineering formally presented a letter of intent to carry out the work prefeasibility study.
The announcement is part of the efforts made by the Minister at the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference, developed in September in Seoul. There, the Peruvian representative presented the MTC project portfolio and received the interest of SOO-Dong Jung, president of Dohwa Engineering.
“During my participation in the Global Cooperation Conference in Seoul Infrastructure, held in September, I exposed the MTC project portfolio. SOO-Dong Jung, president of the company Dohwa Engineering, was interested in this ambitious project through official assistance for the development (AOD) of the Korean government. This intention has materialized this week with the formal order to take care of the studies”Sandoval Pozo said.
The project includes a railway network of 2,446 kilometers of extension, which would become the largest in the history of the country. According to the Minister, the prefeasibility study will allow establishing the total cost of the work and will mark the route to its execution.
In addition, he said that “investors have their eyes on Peru” and that the government of President Dina Boluarte has drawn a policy aimed at transforming the national rail system.
The train will have stations in various regions, including Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Áncash, Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. According to the projections, more than 113 million passengers can move every year and around 61.5 million tons of load.
Finally, the MTC stressed that Dohwa Engineering already participates in another railway project in the country, linked to the train prefeasibility study that will connect the new Chinchero International Airport with the city of Cusco.
