Faride criticizes weaknesses of prosecutors in the face of crimes

Faride critica debilidades de fiscales ante delitos

The Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Raful, expressed concern about the fact that more than 80% of people detained and prosecuted for criminal acts end up released due to judicial decisions that, in many cases, do not reflect the seriousness of the crimes. crimes committed. In that sense, he urged the Public Ministry to take stronger measures to guarantee more efficient justice.

Raful stressed that the weaknesses of the judicial system represent a broken link that compromises the security of citizens. “The release on bail of individuals involved in serious crimes, such as statutory rape, human trafficking and domestic violence, is an issue of extreme concern,” the official highlighted.

During his participation in the radio program The Government of Tomorrowbroadcast by Z101, the minister emphasized that, although her administration works hard to strengthen citizen security through improvements in patrolling and the provision of equipment to the National Police, it is also essential that the Judiciary adopt significant legislative changes.

“We urge judges to be sensitive to the current reality. In addition, it is essential to modify and strengthen certain laws. “We are promoting specific changes in the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code to provide the judicial system with more effective tools that allow more drastic measures to be applied in serious cases,” he indicated.

National Weapons Registry

Raful announced that next January he will begin the process of creating the National Weapons Registry, an initiative aimed at controlling firearms in the hands of civilians, in compliance with the Weapons Law. Likewise, he highlighted the progress in the internal control of the National Police, mentioning the investigation against members of the institution linked to an arms trafficking network as an example of the commitment to transparency.

In addition, he explained that the ministry is carrying out an inventory in the Department of Weapons and Custody to improve control of weapons registered in the country.

Sports spaces as a strategy against crime

On the other hand, the minister called on the authorities to promote comprehensive actions that include the creation of sports spaces for children and young people.

According to Faride Raful, this measure is key to preventing crime, addressing its causes from the root.

“The reality is that we ask our children to practice sports, but there are not enough appropriate spaces for it. We must face this challenge from the grassroots to avoid conditions that favor crime,” he concluded.
