The farewell of the first relief group of the Uruguayan contingent that is fulfilling the peace mission in the Congo took place this Friday, an instance attended by the Undersecretary of Defense, Col. (r) Rivera Elgue -who is temporarily in charge of the Secretary of State-, who highlighted the personal and professional capacities of the Uruguayan troops to fulfill these United Nations missions. Rivera Elgue was accompanied by the Army Chief of Staff, General Luis Mangini, and other senior Army officers.
When dismissing the troops who join the contingent, in the first relief group, the undersecretary said that “in the name of the Executive Power, I dismiss them. I am proud to be with you in these moments before your departure. They are loaded with unknowns, with uncertainty because for some it is the first mission, for others it is not and they already know part of the dynamics of what peace missions constitute, but rest assured that everyone is more than capable of fulfilling and achieving the goals. they have, both personal and professional,” Elgue said.
He indicated that “they are going to integrate a unit that is the pride of the Army, the Armed Forces and the country. The Uruguay IV Battalion has a long history in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has been able to fully comply with all the missions assigned to it, therefore this is its great challenge. In addition, maintaining cohesion, camaraderie and empathy with your comrades throughout the mission, which is not an easy or simple task, but you, with the esprit de corps, coherence and cohesion of any military unit, will achieve it. », he assured.
“I wish you a very good mission, that you take care of yourself, that you pay particular attention to sanitary measures, that you pay particular attention to security measures and that you have a good return within a year. Their families are going to be contained within the scope of the National Army, and if not, we will be ready to solve what is out of their reach, “said the undersecretary.
