This Monday, March 6, the National Armed Forces (FAN) reported that, during the last week, “10 engines with their accessories used for illegal mining and environmental degradation” were destroyed. The discovery of the material was reportedly made by members of the Rapid Reaction Units (URRA) of the Falcón state deployed in the Yapacana National Park in the Amazon.

On February 2, the environmental organization SOS Orinoco denounced that in Yapacana, 3200 hectares have been “deforested and poisoned with mercury” by illegal mining.
According to the organization, in the area there are 86 gold mining machines on top of the tepuy. They warn that these crimes are committed “with the approval of the government of Nicolás Maduro and, previously, of Hugo Chávez, with the consent of the Venezuelan military and the Colombian guerrilla.
On the other hand, the head of the Strategic Operational Command of the Armed Forces (Ceofan), General in Chief Domingo Hernandez Larezpointed out this Monday that in the south of the Lake, in national security patrols, the URRA Zulia destroyed 400 liters of A-1 jet plane gasoline, “presumably used by the Tancol Groups for logistical support.”
