The contribution of small rural producers to national agriculture is the focus of the fifth unprecedented edition of the program Kitchen Xodó that the TV Brasil airs this Saturday (4), at 1pm.
Presenter Regina Tchelly chats with social worker Humberto Palmeira about Brazilians’ eating habits. They also prepare tasty recipes with cabbage to make full use of the ingredients. The attraction is in the app TV Brasil Play and can also be seen on the public channel’s YouTube.
Coordinator of the Raízes do Brasil project, a movement that brings together small farmers, Humberto Palmeira talks to chef Regina Tchelly about topics such as family farming. The collective forms a food production and distribution network. This experience involves healthy meals and agroecology as principles.
The interview for the Kitchen Xodó reveals that 84% of rural properties in the country belong to small producers. Because of this, most of the country’s organic products are made by family farming.
Passionate about Brazilian cuisine, the host shares simple practices that help people eat very well on a daily basis while spending little. Humberto Palmeira explains to her how the project he works on seeks to combat food waste.
“We have established short circuits. In our distribution system, the food is closer to the consumer”, points out the specialist. “A large part of the waste is in the logistics structure, in railway transport, which brings fruits and vegetables from other regions via distant routes. The first way to avoid loss is to bring the food closer to people. It increases utilization”, he recommends.
During the public broadcaster’s culinary production, Regina Tchelly and Humberto Palmeira make three recipes with cabbage. Nutritious and tasty, the vegetable can be much more attractive than it seems. The presenter shows how to use its different parts, from the stem to the leaves in all layers.
