Known as “el Jabao”, Estaba has several health complications. Since 2023, his family has been organizing a campaign to raise money to be able to care for him.
Gabriel Estaba is from Carúpano, Sucre state, played 801 games, scored 12,796 points, grabbed 3,303 rebounds and blocked 104 times during a fruitful career that ended in 2002. Then in 2004 he reappeared in a single game with Gaiteros del Zulia.
With his height of 1.98 meters, he managed to make Venezuela proud with the practice of this sport. He started playing basketball when he was a teenager: he was part of the Professional Basketball League and the national team. His debut was with Panteras de Lara, a team that welcomed him after his outstanding participation in a national championship, at that time he was only 15 years old.
Since then, he has played defense for American teams such as Santa Barbara City College and Jacksonville University, where he later obtained scholarships for 25 or 30 more players. He also played for teams such as Gaiteros del Zulia and Panteras de Miranda.
