“I have considered changing schools for my three children for the next school because it is already very difficult for my husband and me to pay,” lamented Ángeles Estrada, who takes her children to a private school in the south of Mexico City. .
Although the educational laws in Mexico do not prohibit the collection of fees in private schools, as long as they are not extraordinary and the schools inform at the beginning of the school year or in the respective contracts the total costs of enrollment, re-enrollment, tuition, exams or rights for incorporation into the SEP, families suffer from an increase from one year to the next.
“They told us that the fee goes up because they must pay the right to join the SEP, but they do not consider that some families continue to have economic effects,” shared Amalia Rojas, mother of two girls who study in a private secondary school in the Gustavo A. Madero Mayor’s Office. , in Mexico City.
Incorporation costs vary. In the State of Mexico, for example, until 2022 they had a price of 8,215 pesos for preschool and primary, and 9,855 for secondary. In Mexico City, the process for the authorization or recognition of official validity of studies to teach Basic, Initial and Special Education costs 1,430.
The price of the procedure for the annual validity of rights for Recognition of Official Validity of Studies to private schools is 11,188 for higher education and 8,424 for higher education.
