The 1,199 families that have, among their members, a candidate elected in 2024 had their Bolsa Família and Auxílio Gás benefits cancelled. The measure must last as long as the family member’s mandate is in force. Families have already been notified of the cancellation. In total, there are seven families of mayors, 19 vice-mayors and 1,168 councilors who received Bolsa Família.
People registered in the federal government’s Single Registry (CadÚnico) who have a member elected last year will also not be able to request benefits. The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance (MDS) published, this Friday (17), a normative instruction regulating the measure.
“Following the rules provided for access to the Federal Government’s income transfer program, the first payment of 2025 from Bolsa Família, which begins next Monday (20), removed 1,199 candidates elected in the municipal elections of 2024”, says a report from the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom).
Members considered to be from the same family are defined when registering for the programs, considering those who live in the same household and share income and/or expenses.
“It is worth highlighting that the measure aims to improve the allocation of resources and ensure the focus of the Program, and not to generate savings, since the benefits must be paid to everyone who meets the eligibility criteria”, informed the MDS to Brazil Agency.
Rule
Bolsa Família is paid to those who have an income of, at most, R$218 per month for each member of the family who lives in the same house, in addition to being registered with CadÚnico. Registration is done at social assistance service points in the municipalities.
