Santo Domingo.- Residents of the Puerto Isabela project, the former “Hoyo de Chulín”, continue to wait for the authorities to resolve infrastructure problems that have arisen in some of the residential buildings, built in 1988 by the late former president of the Republic, Joaquin Balaguer.
Higinio Morales, a member of the community’s neighborhood council, said that some buildings are cracked and that the sewage system is collapsed in some blocks of the project.
“We have asked the authorities for help, but they have not come, we hope that an institution such as the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) responds to our call,” said the community leader.
The project, which was inaugurated 34 years ago, is located behind the old cement plant, on the banks of the Isabela River, in the Cristo Rey sector of the National District.
Morales said that some buildings are leaning in some areas and that septic tanks “have burst” on many occasions, which he attributed to the weight of the apartments, which he said has caused the ground to give way.
Some residents consulted on the subject expressed their fear that some of the apartments with cracks could collapse.
