Puerto Plata. – The Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food (DASAC) deployed mobile kitchens this Monday to offer immediate food assistance to hundreds of families affected by the intense rains recorded in recent hours in the province of Puerto Plata.
The information was offered by the general director of the institution, Edgar Augusto Feliz Arbonawho explained that, in accordance with the established protocol, the first thing is to ensure the food of people who do not have the conditions to cook, because their utensils and belongings were damaged by the water.
From the early hours of this Monday morning, the mobile kitchens began an operation to distribute hot food rations in different sectors of the municipality San Felipe de Puerto Plataas well as in other parts of the province. The operation has the support of the provincial governor, Claritza Rochtteand is coordinated by the deputy director of DASAC in the area, Francisco Garcia.
In addition to the affected families, members of the relief agencies who participate in the work of transferring and protecting people whose homes were flooded by the torrential downpours also receive food assistance.

Féliz Arbona indicated that, once the waters recede and the soils dry, technicians from the institution will carry out a survey to determine the damage caused to the homes and household belongings, in order to provide the corresponding assistance according to each case.
The official reported that in the next few hours other mobile kitchens will arrive in the province to expand coverage in sectors that have also been impacted by the rains.
Likewise, he highlighted that the president Luis Abinader Corona has closely monitored the situation and has instructed that assistance be provided immediately, with the aim of protecting the lives of the affected families and guaranteeing that they feel accompanied by the Government.
Finally, the director of DASAC pointed out that, through the Provincial Government and the deputy director Francisco García, a survey continues to be carried out to identify and quantify the affected people throughout the province of Puerto Plata, in order to continue offering timely responses to the victims.
