This Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved with a wide margin the list of 12 names that will be part of the Expert Commission that will work together with the future drafting body of the proposal for a new Constitution.
The list had 123 votes in favor, 4 against and 4 abstentions. Now, all that remains is for the Senate to finish forming its final list, which must be voted on this Wednesday. It is worth mentioning that the Commission of Experts will be one of the key bodies of the new constituent process, for whose formation, for the most part, the parties opted for low-profile names, linked to study centers, although ex-authorities of the Michelle governments also stand out. Bachelet and Sebastian Piñera.
This Monday, until late at night, the official parliamentarians met in order to complete a list that, in the first instance, did not consider the principle of gender parity for its conformation, which should have been corrected during the course of this day, prior to submitting to the scrutiny of parliamentarians.
Beginning with the six pro-government letters, in the Broad Front, those chosen were Antonio Rivas (lawyer and PhD in Social Anthropology, without militancy, but elected by Social Convergence) and domingo lovera (Lawyer and PhD in Law, member of the Democratic Revolution, advisor to the Broad Front in the negotiation of the Agreement by Chile and drafting of the constitutional reform). Meanwhile, the Communist Party elected Alexis Cortes (sociologist and PhD in Sociology, former president of the College of Sociologists of Chile).
For its part, the Socialist Party favored the lawyer and former advisor to the Constitutional Court, Flavio Quezada. In the PPD, and although in the first instance they had considered the lawyer and Doctor of Law, José Antonio Ramírez, finally her name had to be replaced by that of an expert woman, to comply with the principle of parity. In this context, and with the signature of other benches, the lawyer and PhD in Law finally joined the official party, Veronica Undurraga.
The Christian Democracy, for its part, defined that its letter would be the lawyer peace anastasiadis, former justice minister in the Valparaíso Region and former member of the technical team that drafted the Agreement for Chile and the constitutional reform. In the opposition, meanwhile, the ex-PDG deputies, independent Chile Vamos and other independents, favored the lawyer and PhD in Law, Marcela Peredo.
In Chile Vamos, the UDI opted for Natalia Gonzalez (lawyer, director of Legal and Legislative Affairs of the think tank Freedom and Development) and by Maximo Pavez (current vice president of the party, lawyer specializing in constitutional law and former undersecretary of Segpres during the second Government of Sebastián Piñera). In the same way, those chosen by Renovación Nacional were the lawyers Juan Jose Ossaformer Undersecretary of Justice and Segpres during the second Government of Piñera, and Catherine Salemacademic from the Universidad del Desarrollo.
Finally, the Republican card is the lawyer Carlos Frontaura, who during his career was a researcher and legislative adviser to the Jaime Guzmán Foundation, in addition to being close to the Republican Party and currently a member of the INDH Council, appointed by Senate quota. It should be remembered that as of March 6, the Committee of Experts of the new constitutional process will begin to meet, whose 24 members are in the process of defining it.
