In images sent to foreign correspondents, the Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo is seen wearing a light blue prison uniform and walking on what appears to be a playground inside a prison facility.
This Thursday, January 2, several images of Nahuel Roosterthe Argentine gendarme detained in Venezuela. The photos and videos were sent by officials of Nicolás Maduro’s administration to several international journalists, as reported by these same reporters on their social networks.
In the images it is observed that Gallo is wearing the light blue uniform of those deprived of liberty. and walking on what appears to be a playground inside a prison facility. This material is the first sign of life presented by the Venezuelan authorities, although the place of detention was not reported.
«Chavismo sends a few correspondents proof of life of the Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, detained for alleged acts of terrorism. His arrest has produced a diplomatic conflict between Argentina and Venezuela. The images are from this January 2,” said the journalist and correspondent for the Andean Region of The Country from Spain, Juan Diego Quesada.
The Argentine gendarme has been detained since last December 8 and to date his relatives nor the Argentine authorities had had any communication with him.
The disclosure of the photos and videos occurs after Argentina will request this Thursday from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) precautionary measures in favor of Gallo. In a statement published by the Foreign Ministry it was reported that “the petition highlights the arbitrariness of his detention and requests urgent measures to guarantee his protection, order his immediate release and ensure his safe return to Argentina.”
The Argentine government stated in its statement that based on Article 25 of the IACHR Regulations, the request emphasizes the urgency of the case and the imminent risk to the life and integrity of Gallo. «The Argentine Republic hopes that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will resolve quickly and demand compliance from the Venezuelan State. Human rights and democracy must be respected and protected by all.

“Return him to his homeland now!” was the message from the Chancellor of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, after the first images of Gallo were published.
The dissemination of these images also occurs after the formal complaint made by the Argentine government before the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing the Maduro government and Attorney General Tarek William Saab of violating Gallo’s human rights. The Venezuelan authorities consider him a “terrorist” and accuse him of being involved in “conspiratorial actions against the republican peace.” The Argentine government of Javier Milei has denied these accusations.
