Mothers and fathers of secondary school students noticed various difficulties on the registration page for the federal government’s Rita Cetina universal basic education scholarship, which began last Monday. Parents attributed the problems to the saturation of the online portal, because, they said, it does not give them access, or once inside the system removes them during the process.
At the beginning of October, the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, announced the details of the scholarship with the purpose of eliminating the economic barriers that affect access to education in the country. This incentive will benefit 21.4 million children and adolescents throughout the basic level, but its first stage will begin in 2025, with the secondary level estimated to benefit 5.6 million students.
Registration began last Monday and can be done until Wednesday, December 18 for this educational level. Since 5 p.m. on Monday, when the page was enabled, parents tried, without success, to enter their data. Mayra Ramírez, mother of a second grade student in Ixtapaluca, state of Mexico, told this newspaper that already lost count
of the times she has tried to access the page and even asked a friend to help her, considering that the problem was her thinking that she did not know how to register. So far she has not been able to enter, and, she mentioned, no classmate in her daughter’s classroom has managed to do so.
In other cases, they indicated that their children’s documents are not recognized, since they appear as not enrolled in said educational level.
The Rita Cetina scholarship will give 1,900 pesos if there is one student in the family, if there are two students, 700 pesos will be added; three, one thousand 400, and so on.
