US President Donald Trump stated that he “hopes not to have to use” naval force against Tehran, and Iran warned that it would “instantly” attack US aircraft carriers and bases in the region in the event of an attack.
Iran is willing to resume negotiations on its nuclear program with the United States if they take place “on an equal footing,” said its foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, this Friday in Turkey.
Araqchi met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who seeks to avoid a possible US attack on neighboring Iran, which could destabilize the region.
It is Araqchi’s first visit abroad since the wave of protests broke out in Iran, which occurred between December and January and was repressed by the regime.
The trip occurs in a context of maximum tension for the Iranian government, given the deployment of United States warships in the Middle East, and the decision of the European Union to include the Guardians of the Revolution, its elite army, on the list of terrorist organizations.

The foreign minister insisted that Tehran “has never sought to obtain nuclear weapons,” but stressed that Iranian defense capabilities and missiles “will never be the subject of negotiation.”

“The security of the Iranian people is no one else’s concern,” he said, and specified that, at the moment, “no meeting has been scheduled” with the Americans.
For his part, Hakan Fidan considered that the resumption of this nuclear dialogue is “vital to calm regional tensions” and noted that the talks “will also open the way to a lifting of the sanctions imposed on Iran.”
Türkiye tries to mediate
Turkey, a NATO member that maintains strong relations with Iran, wants to avoid a military escalation at the gates of its territory, which could also trigger a new flow of migrants across the 550 km border it shares with the Islamic Republic.

In this sense, the Turkish Foreign Minister maintained that the United States must resist pressure from Israel, its ally, to attack Iran.
“We note that Israel is trying to convince the United States to launch a military attack against Iran (…) We hope that the American administration will show common sense,” Fidan declared.
More than 6,400 people died in the demonstrations, according to a report by the NGO Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), based in the United States.
