Face to face

Two lynchings reflect the low value that life has in Bolivia. Three alleged kidnappers were executed in Ivirgarzama. They accused them, detained them, took them away from the Police and finally killed them in a savage way: beaten and burned by an anonymous mob. It’s not the first time it happens. The story is already quite well known, reflected by journalist Roberto Navia in his report Chronicles of the Inquisition, which occurred in 2013, when other alleged thieves were murdered in an act of barbarism. Some time later it was learned that the union was not such, but the accusing finger of popular fury was stronger.

These three people were sentencedto death without the right to defense. They took them from the Police, who were unable to contain the mob. What a demonstration of the little value that life has! Furthermore, it occurred in the same area, which for years has been considered stateless territory due to the shortage of uniformed personnel and the inability for the law to be imposed.

Clarify this and other lynchingsIt should be a priority of the national government. Beyond the political struggles between arcistas and evistas, it is urgent that the laws be respected, that there be institutions and guarantees throughout the national territory. The savage killing of three people is senseless in the 21st century and in a country where justice should prevail with respect to Human Rights. But it is already known that these fundamental rights are only written in the Constitution, because their violation is part of real life in prisons, barracks and other areas without god or law.
