Construction is like a thermometer that measures the temperature of the economy. When there are resources in the State, roads, bridges, etc. are built; On the other hand, when finances are contracted, unpaid debts remain and a city or a country undergoing transformation is less visualized. And, although more and more buildings are seen in Santa Cruz, the sector has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels. The State is a lousy payer and maintains millionaire debts with the construction companies. The truth is that fewer square meters are being built now than in 2019 and that the workforce is going to seek work and income in neighboring countries.
The MAS and the Government gave a change of direction during the last weekend. The sides in dispute (Choquehuanca versus Evo Morales) promised to stop attacking each other in public settings and “wash the dirty laundry inside the house.” Added to this is the strategy of bombarding citizens with sugar-coated messages about how “the national economy is doing well.” It seems that it will return to the old scheme of questioning the opposition, the supposed coup and more, as long as the government of Luis Arce Catacora wears out less. As long as he governs with all Bolivians in mind and projecting a better country, it will be enough.
On the other side is the feeling that the products of the family basket are more expensive. Undoubtedly, everyone is interested in Bolivia overcoming the economic crisis in the best possible way. The currency is stable, but international reserves are shrinking.
