Today I read that maturity is understanding that at Christmas the gifts are not under the tree, but rather they are sitting next to you. And indeed, there is nothing more true. While the spirit of solidarity that pervades this special date still remains, it is so nice to see family photos on social networks, with generations gathered around a table. But it is even more pleasant to discover that good people abound. A week ago I wrote in this same column about the letters of faith of a group of children who are receiving chemotherapy and who were excitedly asking Santa Claus for a gift. Today I am happy to report that all the children had their wish fulfilled, and in many cases, they even received double what they asked for.
Hearts of solidarity that enjoy giving more than receiving, were responsible for renewing my hope, especially when there is very little good news to give on a daily basis, and when the world tells you that there is a crisis, that the future is projected negative. , confirm that against all odds, gratitude, consideration and detachment towards a stranger still exist. That’s priceless.
May they not deceive us or steal our joy and patience. Human beings have the ability to fall to get up and have the gift of redeeming themselves. This Christmas, Alexander, Brenda, Liam, Yuliana and Itzayana awaited the birth of baby Jesus with their strength weakened by chemotherapy, but they also felt the love of their loved ones and of unknown people whose hearts were touched. The latter gave something material, but in exchange they received a greater gratification. In the Face to Face last Thursday I finished the last line promising:
It’s going to deliver something, but trust me, you’ll be the one who wins, and it did.
