A judicial fence seems to be tightening around Evo Morales, after the Tarija Departmental Prosecutor’s Office filed a charge against him for the crime of aggravated human trafficking and he did not appear to provide his informative statement within the established deadlines. Tarija prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez confirmed the formal accusation before a precautionary court to determine the date and time of the corresponding hearing. Along with that of Morales, the arrest warrant for the victim’s mother, a 14-year-old minor sexually subjected by the coca grower, is confirmed, according to the complaint.

Evo’s situation tends to get complicated because the Police confirmed that he provided a false home address and that is why his arrest could not be carried out. It is unknown if this is the same property where a supposedly harmful substance was recently thrown and where the homeowner allegedly reported a new attempt to end his life. Morales remains entrenched in Chapare and with spectacular display, went on Sunday to vote in the judicial elections to “fulfill his civic duty.”

“Whoever hides or escapes is a confessed criminal, he is not a politically persecuted person,” The citizen of Orinoca speculated in May 2016 when he was still enjoying the joys of power. Now he is entrenched in his Chapareño fiefdom to which police forces will have to go to enforce the arrest warrant because it is unlikely that Evo will voluntarily appear to testify. Then, you will become a hostage to your own words.
