We are experiencing excessive exposure to social networks. From platforms such as TikTok, X or Instagram, countless ‘story builders’ appear camouflaged as content generators. Through their videos they show a biased and partial reality of politics, history and current coexistence. With shameless ease they position themselves in the dichotomy of good and bad to simplify the view of today’s society into only two planes: either black or white. They marginalize, from the outset, the positions of encounter and understanding that are so natural to human beings. In large numbers, they call themselves journalists and, without shame, they will talk about their transcendent work in favor of the truth. These camouflaged activists make use of the headlines published by traditional media to, from them, ‘draw’ peculiar stories from reality.
Contrasted information allows citizens to position themselves in their context. How to access this responsible journalism? It is the great challenge of modern society, a society that has relegated values to a lesser level to prioritize sensations. Submission to algorithms contributes to this culture of easy satisfaction by displaying, on the walls of the networks, that content that holds us back, without prioritizing the veracity of the information.
Value journalism responds to that view of social construction collective. It focuses on issues of relevance to the community and applies journalistic research methodologies to guarantee responsible information. The work of journalists committed to ethical rigor and trained in the very essence of journalism is the guarantee of offering audiences quality work. At EL DEBER we promote this valuable journalism and thanks to current technological innovations, you can also be part of this commitment to the truth. You just have to join the campaign and contribute to the sustainability of our journalistic investigations.
