Presenter Teresa Cristina welcomes veteran Nei Lopes and singer Fabiana Cozza in the unprecedented edition of Samba in Gamboa this Sunday (12), at 1pm, on TV Brasil. The program features a very lively and music-filled interview with the duo who formed an unlikely partnership when opening a trunk of unreleased works by the experienced singer and composer. They perform exciting duets on the public channel’s small screen.
Guests sing hits from the experienced composer’s career and reveal how their artistic paths crossed. Fabiana Cozza released the album in 2023 Urucungoan album with new songs by the master. In addition to remembering this work, they perform works from the project that includes 12 original tracks and partnerships with artists such as Wilson Moreira, Leci Brandão, Guinga, Ivan Lins and Francis Hime.
The tribute’s repertoire on the public broadcaster’s small screen includes Bamba classics such as Lady Liberty and Samba do Irajáin addition to several works by the icon with the late Wilson Moreira, his greatest partner, as Yummy Poison, Glory Day, D, G, B, D and To the People in the Form of Art.

Memories and roots of samba
Writer with more than 50 published books, Nei Lopes is a student of African cultures. He opens his heart during the relaxed samba circle. “Fate is inexorable: when it is planned, it happens. When people ask me why you write so much, I say it’s because I have nothing else to do at home”, jokes the author. “It’s the pleasure of creating and innovating. I move a lot with the past. I write lyrics invoking what I didn’t experience, but I knew those who did”, explains the famous samba singer.
During the production of TV Brasil, the conversation between the star from Rio and the singer from São Paulo with the host covers topics related to the black movement and Afro-Brazilian culture, as well as his written production. “My involvement with books has a very logical reason. My education was very tumultuous, especially from the point of view of history”, points out the guest when talking about what drives him. “I became interested in the things that I still dedicate myself to today because we have an obligation”, he comments.
Great lyricist, Nei Lopes is a reference in the world of samba. The 83-year-old artist makes history to this day by using his talent to address timeless themes that cross generations with colloquial language. The star highlights his references and the importance of Salgueiro, the samba terreiro where he was happiest.
The program Samba in Gamboa reminiscent of the iconic album The Black Art of Wilson Moreira and Nei Lopes (1980), among other gems from his work that was recorded by big names in national music, such as Alcione, Beth Carvalho and Clara Nunes.
Fabiana Cozza remembers the challenge of choosing Nei Lopes’ repertoire for the project Urucungo upon opening the trunk of unpublished works from bamba’s collection. “I went with a selection that has guided me since the first work. I will allow myself to be moved by the songs. When the heart listens and shivers”, says the artist.
The singer talks about the importance of ancestry when celebrating names like Clara Nunes and Ivone Lara “It’s a look that centers me. These people are part of my journey. A tribute goes beyond choosing songs and singing that composer. It’s saying what you think and dialogue.”
Production history
THE Samba in Gamboa brings together great performers from the new generations and renowned names in the genre and icons of MPB for a lively samba circle. With Diogo Nogueira, the program had seven seasons and was recorded between 2008 and 2018. To this day, the attraction is part of the public channel’s schedule.
