Fabián Ricardo Gómez is appointed as the new head of the Ministry of Public Security in Colima

Gómez Calcáneo, who has training in the Secretary of the Navy, arrives to replace Rear Admiral Gerardo Romero Santana in office.

“Fabián Ricardo, as a sailor and as a public servant, is aware of the enormous expectation that exists to move with greater speed towards the peace and tranquility that our people demand and deserve. We trust that, with professionalism, commitment, perseverance and coordination, he will help us achieve this objective,” declared the governor.

The president also recognized and thanked Rear Admiral Gerardo Romero Santana for his work and dedication at the head of the agency.

This is the fourth change in the ownership of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) during the Vizcaíno administration. The first appointment fell to Manuel Llerandi Ruiz, who held the position between 2021 and 2022. Subsequently, Héctor Alfredo Castillo Báez assumed the position, serving as head of the SSP from 2022 to 2025.

Mario Delgado’s aunt and cousin are murdered

The change in the Ministry of Security occurs days after relatives of the head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado Carrillo, were murdered at his home.

The federal secretary confirmed, through his social networks, that the victims were his aunt Eugenia Delgado and his cousin Sheila, who were at home at the time of the attack.

The Colima Public Security Secretariat reported hours later that they killed three people who are presumed to have participated in the double homicide that occurred in the Placetas Estadio neighborhood.

They also detailed that an element of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) was hit by a gunshot during the confrontation, although his health status is stable and out of danger.
