A KC-390 Millennium plane, from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), takes off today (7), at 3 pm, from the Brasília Air Base to carry out the rescue mission of Brazilians who left Ukraine because of the war. The aircraft is scheduled to land in Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday (9).
The plane carries 11.6 tons of medicines for emergency care, food and basic necessities with technology for autonomous operation – used in places without resources and in extreme situations, such as wars and conflicts, such as humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Interministerial action
The inter-ministerial action, called Operation Repatriation, takes place in an integrated manner between the ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs and Health. The repatriated Brazilians should arrive in Brazil on Thursday (10).
The situation in Ukraine remains serious and the total number of refugees who fled the Russian invasion has now reached 1.5 million, according to the director of the United Nations (UN) Agency for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi. “This is the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since the end of the Second World War,” he said. Poland, Romania and Hungary have been the destination of most refugees.
