The Broad Front promoted the interpellation of Minister Arbeleche to request explanations about the economic policy promoted by the government, the economic and social situation that the country is going through, in particular due to the increase in inflation and prices, the fall in employment, the salary and household income, and the measures taken or to be taken to deal with said situation.
Deputy Bettiana Díaz will be the questioning member representing the Broad Front.
Data manipulation
In this sense, Díaz questioned the “manipulation in the management of data on poverty and employment”, and raised the need to ensure the recovery of real wages.
“We are not clear about what is happening with prices and with household income. The only thing we get is announcements of announcements and in the meantime people are still waiting. We want to know first-hand, from the minister, who today did not appear before the Deputies’ Treasury Committee, what the strategy will be to address these problems that Uruguay has,” said the Frente Amplio legislator.
He questioned “the increase in poverty in all age groups, the problems with employment, and with official data.”
He considered that the VAT exemption measures for roast and baked goods, promoted by the government, “remain insufficient.”
“A post-pandemic care plan is needed, almost an emergency. There are many people who have fallen, we have 60,000 more people in a situation of poverty and it is something that economic policy has to address, ”he stated.
