Last Tuesday, June 7, within the framework of the appearance of the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, as a General Commission before the Senate, an event took place that drew a lot of attention.

At one point in the session, FA senator Amanda Della Ventura was preparing to speak to refer to femicides in Uruguay.

However, the president of the Senate interrupted her to express that she was off topic.

“I want to make a clarification. Are you going to refer to the femicides? which would be the part…because so far it’s off topic. So I would like, as I said to all the colleagues who have preceded, that we try, as much as possible, to be within the framework of the issue like all the senators listed. Do you want me to repeat why we are here? We are going to clarify, not only for you, but perhaps at this time we have forgotten: ‘The call is to the minister in order to consider the situation in terms of coexistence and public security in particular with homicides,’ “he detailed.

Della Ventura asked: “Killing women, aren’t they homicides?”

At that moment, Argimón lost his temper and said out loud and making gestures: “You are daring! Excuse me for saying so. I just asked him if he wants to talk about the femicides. Do not disrespect me and respect my trajectory. Stick with what you have to say and stay on topic.”

Violence, mistreatment and aggression

This Wednesday, June 8, the Broad Front of Florida issued a statement regarding the act of violence experienced by Senator Amanda Della Ventura.

“We are worried, we cannot be indifferent, we cannot get used to situations of violence with intemperate exits from political actors in our country,” said the FA.

The left recalled that last Tuesday the Senate of the Republic summoned the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, to analyze the emergency insecurity in Uruguay and present what were the proposals “to improve to solve a serious situation that involves everyone.”

In that place there was a situation of “violence, mistreatment and aggression”, which the FA assures left them very sore.

“Our fellow senator Amanda Della Ventura suffered a violent attack out of place, from the president of the Senate, Beatriz Argimón. In this climate, with anger, every day we move away from the best democratic traditions, of collective construction, which help to find solutions to the problems of all Uruguayans”, stated the FA.

In this sense, the opposition coalition remarked: “It is not with acts of barricade or intemperate shouting that we are going to build the bridges that help find solutions to the problems that affect us all. We call on all political actors to reflect to generate a climate of dialogue that allows us to live up to the circumstances that the country is experiencing.”
