The Broad Frontone of the main political coalitions in Uruguay, has decided to expand its team with the incorporation of a well-known television personality. This Thursday, Iliana da Silva will be officially presented as part of the group El Abrazo, during an event in The Footprint of SeregniThis event coincides with the celebration of the tenth anniversary of Frente en Movimiento, an internal faction of the party that seeks to stand out for its dynamism.
Iliana da Silva has an extensive career in the media. With more than three decades of experience, she has been a prominent figure in television and radio programs. She was the director of the news program Channel 5 between 2012 and 2015, during the administration of José Mujica, and former host of the Sunday edition of Telemundo. This change of direction towards politics highlights his interest in influencing the public sphere from a new perspective.
The presentation ceremony
The presentation event will take place at 7 p.m., with the participation of figures such as the deputy Cristina Lustemberg and the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira. He will also be present Fiorela Buzetawith whom da Silva shares a common interest in the rights of people with disabilities, reflecting a clear commitment to social activism.
The Abrazo is not only composed of Frente en Movimiento, but also includes IR, PAR, and Independientes del Abrazo, showing a wide spectrum of political affiliations within the team. Da Silva announced his departure from Telemundo at the beginning of 2024while her husband, political scientist Conrado Ramos, left his post at the National Civil Service Office after his election as secretary general of the Latin American Center for Administration for Development.
A new chapter in Iliana da Silva’s career at the FA
Although Iliana da Silva has decided to tackle politics, her focus will be more oriented towards communication work. She has begun to collaborate with the presidential ticket of the Frente Amplio, led by Yamandú Orsi and Carolina CosseThis strategy is not new for da Silva, who was present at the presentation ceremony of Blanca Rodríguez, another media figure who joined the Front.
For now, Da Silva is not seeking elective office. Her main intention is to actively engage in the campaign, supporting both Lustemberg and Buzeta, to facilitate their access to Parliament. In addition, her focus will be on work on the “territory”, where she feels most effective and committed.
