This Monday the senators of the Republic will hold an Extraordinary Session to remember the 50th anniversary of the dissolution of the chambers ordered by the then president Juan María Bordaberry and that it was the beginning of the civic-military dictatorship that would govern until 1985.
The Upper House will remember what was the session on the night of June 26, 1973, reaffirming the commitment to Democracy.
The event will be attended by President Luis Lacalle Pou, former Presidents Julio María Sanguinetti, Luis Lacalle Herrera and José Mujica, national authorities, journalists of the time and relatives of the senators who participated in that historic session.
The speeches of Wilson Ferreira Aldunate (National Party), Amílcar Vasconcellos (Colorado Party) and Enrique Rodríguez (Broad Front) will be highlighted, as agreed by the delegates of all parties.
