Santo Domingo.– An unusual traffic congestion took over the main avenues of the city this Wednesday night. National Districtcausing long lines of vehicles and despair among drivers trying to return home after the work day.
Since past 7:30 at nighttraffic began to collapse on arteries such as John F. Kennedy Avenuethe Winston Churchillthe February 27 and the Núñez de Cácereswhere the usual trips of 15 or 20 minutes were extended for more than an hour.

Although the traffic lights were working normallythe traffic jams were visible in both directions, especially at the intersections near the Defiló, Abraham Lincoln and Lope de Vegawhere the vehicles remained practically motionless.
Slow or stopped circulation
According to application reports wazemost of the roads in the capital were marked in deep redindicating a slow or stopped circulation. Users on social networks described the situation as “a total collapse,” ensuring that the city was “completely paralyzed.”
Some attribute the situation to high traffic flow after Tuesday’s general blackoutwhile others relate it to the evening rains that affected the capital and part of Greater Santo Domingo.

Although the rains had stopped late in the evening, the puddles and high traffic flow continued to make traffic difficult, especially in the points where water accumulations usually formlike the intersections of the Kennedy with Churchill and the February 27 with Núñez de Cáceres.
