In the last 11 months, the exports of the sector of free zones have contributed 8,581.87 million dollars in foreign currency to the country, which represents a growth 47.36% compared to 5,823.69 million at the end of 2020.
The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozone) has rated these results as a “performance exceptional“, consolidating the sector as a strategic pillar of the Dominican economy.
In a press release, the union points out that this has had a positive impact on the generation of jobs: from 168,200 at the end of 2020, to 197,514 jobs in the third quarter of 2024, according to data from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) and the National Council of Export Free Zones (Cnzfe).
- This represents an increase of almost 30,000 jobs formal in the mentioned period.
“The impact of free zones transcends numbers, since they contribute to the development of communitiesthey generate jobs of quality and strengthen the image of the Dominican Republic as an attractive destination for foreign investment“said the president of AdozoneLuis José Bonilla Bojos.
The executive reaffirmed the union’s commitment to continue working to consolidate these progress and guarantee that the sector continues to be a benchmark for competitiveness and growth in the region.
Grows the foreign investment direct
As for the foreign investment direct (FDI), the free zones recorded 1,253.4 million dollars from the beginning of 2021 to the third quarter of 2024, and 1,312.6 million dollars if a four-year period is considered until September 2024.
