Exports from free zones fell by 15.2%

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), exports of free zones in December registered a decrease of 15.2%, going from US$236.9 million in the same month of 2021 to US$201 million.

According to the report, this decline se explained by the outputs to the rest of the world of processed or transformed goods by an industrial user in a free zone, which contributed negative 15.9 percentage points to the total variation in exports.

Looking towards the foreign trade of the Special Permanent Free Trade Zones (ZFPE), these presented a 41.9% drop in the last month of 2022which contributed negatively with 19.9 percentage points to the total variation of exports.

(In addition: Restaurant menu prices rose 14.5%).

Now, regarding the Permanent Free Zones (ZFP)an increase of 8.7% was registered for this same month, with a positive contribution of 4.6 percentage points.
In turn, in terms of destination countries, the greatest decrease in foreign sales was to Puerto Rico, which contributed negatively 29.4 percentage points.

Likewise exports to Brazil and China contributed to the total variation, overall, negative 6.1 percentage points.
