Exports flew in November and grew 60% year-on-year

In November, export applications —including free zones— totaled US $ 1,097 million, up 60% in year-on-year terms. Bovine meat, electricity, cellulose, wood, meat by-products, soybeans and beverage concentrate are the products with the greatest positive impact on the variation of the period.

According to the Uruguay XXI report, this increase in exports occurs in a global and regional context of recovery of trade in goods after the global pandemic generated by covid-19. Likewise, the increase in the price of commodities as a result of increased demand, high international liquidity and the weakening of the dollar globally They have influenced the historical maximum reached by Uruguayan goods exports.

In particular, for the main products exported by Uruguay, a significant increase in prices is observed in the accumulated of the year. There was an increase in the average prices of beef (12%), cellulose (37%), soy (43%), dairy products (14%), wood 7%), rice (13%) and malt (14%) in the period of January-November 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year. In several cases, the rise in prices was accompanied by an increase in export volumes.

The monthly increase in exports in November was explained by higher sales of beef, cellulose, beverage concentrate, malt and electricity. On the other hand, wood and wood by-products had a negative impact on the variation of the month.

Beef exports reached US $ 260 million in November, reflecting an increase of 47% in the year-on-year comparison. This amount is 4% higher than the historical record registered in October, which means that sales of beef set a historical record at a monthly level as well as in the accumulated of January-November 2021 (US $ 2,187 million).

same month of 2020. Other important destinations were the European Union (17%), the United States (7%), Brazil (3%) and Canada (2%).

On the other hand, according to the records of the National Customs Directorate (DNA), the export of electrical energy reached US $ 100 million in November, Brazil being the main destination with 80% of the total exported. The remaining 20% ​​was exported to Argentina. In the accumulated, energy exports had an increase of 587% with a total of US $ 546 million.
