The authorities ordered seven raids in different parts of the country, as part of an investigation after the seizure in a Montevideo port of some 653 kilos of cocaine in a load of Paraguayan meat that was destined for Russia.

Records as part of the operation “Moscow connection” took place in the towns of Ciudad del Este, Concepción, Emboscada, Horqueta and Villa Elisareported the Public Ministry in a statement.
Prosecutor Osmar Segovia indicated that six of the raids took place at private homes, a ranch and a farm that are presumed to belong to three people considered suspicious of the shipment of the stash.
A recently built warehouse in the city of Emboscada was also inspected, where spray paint marks were found on the floor, the information added.
According to the Public Ministry, the cardboard boxes containing the seized drugs had a red “X” marked on them, apparently spray-painted.

Two trucks were also seized in the operation.
The National Anti-drug Secretariat (Senad) reported that the arrest of three people was ordered, including Víctor Ramón Sanabria Oporto, who was mayor of the town of Belén and is a pre-candidate for the official candidate for the legislative board of the department of Concepción.

The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that Sanabria “it would be the carrier” and the one “he contracted with the refrigerator”, while the other two required by Justice, identified as Adelio Fretes García and his nephew Cándido Javier Fretes, “they would be the owners and managers of the trucks.”

The cocaine was found on November 22 inside a container with frozen meat bound for St. Petersburg (Russia), after a stopover in the port of Antwerp (Belgium).
