The Food Expo 2022, the most important food fair in Latin America, would generate business for US$ 320 million with which it would contribute to the growth of Peruvian exports, said the president of the Exporters Association (Adex), Julio Perez.
In addition, he pointed out that the more than 800 international buyers were able to identify Peruvian suppliers and those from other countries that presented innovative products.
During the event, more than 1,000 business meetings were held and 330 national and foreign exhibitors were present, who exhibited their exportable offer to national and international buyers and representatives of large wholesale and retail distribution chains in the world.
“These results allow us to point out that Expoalimentaria 2022 is a determining event in the growth of traditional and non-traditional agro-exports, which in the last 5 years, registered an average growth of 10.9%”, he added.
Strengthening dialogue
At another time, the union leader said that continuing on this path will depend on the work of exporting companies and public institutions, with whose authorities he hopes to strengthen dialogue in order to advance on pending agendas.
“I spoke with the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Jenny Ocampo, to whom I conveyed the concern of agro-exporters at the announcement by the Senasa (National Agrarian Health Service) workers’ union to start an indefinite national strike from Monday. The minister expressed her commitment to reach a solution”, detailed.
After being informed of the suspension of this force measure until October 21, the president of Adex welcomed such a decision as a result of dialogue, since it will avoid the paralysis of agro-exports and of all the members of that chain throughout the country.
He also had an approach to the Minister of Production, Jorge Luis Prado, with whom he will seek to create synergies with the aim of reactivating other engines of the economy that will accelerate the complete recovery of the country.
Innovation Award
Within the framework of the closing ceremony of the fair, the winners of the 11th Innovation Contest were awarded, which promotes business ingenuity and creativity in the development of new and better products, Adex highlighted.
In the “Confectionery and Snacks” category, the first place was won by the Candela company with its chestnut covered with dark chocolate with 70% cocoa and the second place was won by Fusion Foods with its Keto product, among others, he said.
Finally, he commented that 100% of the international participants assured their presence in the 2023 edition.
