Different specialists and the representation of medical societies and the academy met with the intention of starting awareness days that seek to lower the high incidence rate of caesarean section in the country.
The Dominican Republic ranked first in the world as the country with the highest percentage of cesarean sections performed, they have a high number, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Paraguaywhich worries the experts.
It was the first day to reduce the rate of caesarean sections in the country.

In the public sector, the rate of caesarean sections fluctuates between 58 to 62%, while in the private sector it is over 90%. The activity was organized by the Dominican Republic branch of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
The country belonging to District III of said organization, and had the support of the Dominican Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SDGO), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Amadita Laboratories and Café Santo Domingo.
The activity took place at the facilities of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, (UASD) and it was developed throughout the day in two sessions.
Different national and international gynecologists-obstetricians expressed concern about the high rate of caesarean sections and its implications for maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, and presented conferences. Jenny Garcia chairs the RD Section of ACOG District III and welcomed the obstetricians
